Events for families and Slow Food Day with Mārtiņš Rītiņš on December 9 and 10
On December 9 and 10 from 10 AM to 4 PM in Kalnciema Quarter, a diverse program of events for visitors will take place, but families with children are especially welcome. In December, Christmas Markets are also taking place on SUNDAYS. The "Art Hunt" pop-up market is also open every day.
On Saturday, you will be invited to a meal prepared by famous Latvian chef Mārtiņš Rītiņš, a children's book publishing event, but on Sunday you will be able to watch performance of "Snowflake Dance" and learn the ballet steps at the masterclass yourself. On Sunday in the Wooden Architecture Center will be able to make bird cages and feeders together with specialists of the center.
In honor of the International Slow Food Day, On Saturday there will be a special guest in Kalnciema Quarter - the founder of Slow Food Riga Mārtiņš Rītiņš. At the market he will cook delicious dishes from his childhood.
The Slow Food movement supports the diversity of local traditional food and dishes. The Slow Food Farmers' Alley in Kalnciema Quarter has been operating since 2014, and today it delights the marketplace with healthy, tasty, fresh, seasonal goods grown or produced in a way that does not harm the health and the environment.
At 12.00 "Liels un mazs" publishing house will open the book"On Horseback" by writer and poet Inese Zandere and illustrator Anna Vaivare. Inese Zandere will take part in the opening, but under the guidance of artist Anna Vaivare children will be able to make their own horses - Christmas decorations. The piano will play not only gamma but also more exciting pieces. The event will take place in the Brown House of Kalnciema. Free of charge.
On Sunday, with warm and spicy dishes, visitors will be delighted by the popular participant of last summer's Street Food Festival - friendly and charismatic chef Havier from the Mexican restaurant El Santo X.
From 1 PM, a great day will be for all children who dream of becoming ballet dancers. Children will be able to watch the ballet performance "Snowflake Dance", but then take part in the ballet masterclass, possibly for the first time learning about ballet art. From 11 AM to 2 PM children, together with the masters of the Wooden Architecture Center, will prepare the feeders for the birds who are going to stay in Latvia. It will be possible to make bird cages and to expect them in the spring with new homes. Also painting of wooden birds will take place. The workshop has been created with the support of the Riga City Council.
An annual pop-up art fair “Art Hunt” will make it possible to get acquainted with the works of the brightest home painters and graphic artists. In total, more than 500 works, including jewelry, cards, souvenirs, etc. will be available for viewing and purchase. A great opportunity to "hunt" a creative and unique gift to your loved ones!
From 8th of December in the area of Kalnciema Quarter, the object "Winter Landscape" of the environmental object festival "Christmas Spruce Path" will be displayed, implemented with the support of the Education, Culture and Sports Department of the Riga City Council.
